Gain Clarity and Confidence and ‘Get in Front of’ Legal Requests in Private Practice
Whether you have actively sought to work in the forensic area, you are in private practice and are terrified you might inadvertently get caught up in a legal matter or you have had the dreaded email from a lawyer or subpoena from Court, there are ways to minimise the headaches.
I developed an approach for myself and my colleagues at my practice that has helped enormously and I now want to share it with you. A friend and colleague coined this approach, the 4 P’s; Policies, Processes, Practices and Perspectives. Because we don’t have enough P’s in our life already, hey.
This approach spans the client’s journey with you and your practice, from the moment they make an enquiry through their period of engagement and through to the closure of their file (and perhaps the re-opening of their file down the track).
It creates administrative efficiencies, identifies areas of risk (to you/the practice) and ensures transparency and expectation management in service delivery, all of which is relevant whether you actively work in the forensic area or avoid it.
It provides a framework for establishing treatment goals, conducting robust assessments and writing respectful and helpful reports that should you go to Court, are also defensible.
